Meet your guide
Ludovic Coulon
Independent guide, born in Avranches on 20 February 1990
Immersed in the bay from a very young age with my father, who was passionate about the marine environment, fishing and ornithology, I was fortunate to learn from the very best. This valuable heritage allowed me to turn my knowledge and passion into my profession.
Since 2015, I have been an officially certified guide in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. Accredited by the State, I began as a seasonal guide with a guiding company based in the village of Genêts.
In 2018, I chose to become an independent guide in order to offer more personalised and unique experiences. Today, I provide a wide range of crossings, excursions and guided walks across the bay.
Throughout the year, in tune with the seasons and the tides, I offer themed and sensory outings in the heart of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
With passion and enthusiasm, I lead all my experiences with a focus on the natural and cultural heritage of the bay.
My mission : to offer you exceptional moments in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, in the heart of a truly remarkable site.
A Living and Ever-Changing Landscape
The Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the rare natural spaces where it is impossible for humans to fully map the terrain. With each tide, the landscape transforms, revealing an ever-changing and remarkable environment.
This is why it is strongly recommended to hire a guide before venturing into the bay.
During exceptional spring tides, the tidal range can exceed 14 metres among the highest in continental Europe.
Through its singular landscape and the unforgettable experiences it inspires, the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel has shaped me into a truly passionate local guide.

When is the best time to cross the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel?
The Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel can be explored all year round and it is always different. During the low season (winter period), make sure to come properly equipped. You are in Normandy!
High season : March 15 >> October 15
Low season : October 15 >> March 15
From a naturalist point of view, there are two very different experiences :
You will enjoy a bay rich in migratory birds, with a more intimate and peaceful experience. The bay is far less crowded, offering a true sense of tranquillity. The light is particularly stunning, especially around the equinoxes. During this period, I often offer personalised excursions with private and exclusive guiding (depending on your preferences).
Days get longer and temperatures rise, making outdoor activities much more enjoyable. The waters warm up and nature comes back to life. Marine wildlife becomes more active, and you may see seals and fish with every tide, along with our summer bird species. However, the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is also a popular summer destination, so you are unlikely to be alone enjoying it!
Born on the edge of the bay, here are some of my best memories :
Family picnics on the sandbanks, watching the seals as the tide comes in.
Adventures with friends to the rock of Tombelaine, for all kinds of occasions.
Magical sunsets at the Grouin du Sud in Saint-Léonard.
Shrimp fishing with my school friends, bringing home the bay’s treasure — the famous grey shrimp.
Fishing for mullet with a net as the tide rises, watching them swim between your legs by the hundreds during the summer.
Shore fishing beneath the cliffs of Champeaux, where you discover the exceptional Hermelles reef, a paradise for shellfish such as cockles and clams.
And of course, bodyboarding the tidal bore, mud baths, getting fully immersed in quicksand, and playing football on the salt marshes.
A profession, a passion…
Every adventure is unique!
Home to the largest tides in Europe, Mont-Saint-Michel Bay reveals ever-changing landscapes, shaped by constant movement.
A true biodiversity hotspot
The wildlife and plant life of this exceptional ecosystem reveal their greatest surprises as the seasons change.
Over 1,300 years of history
Bay crossings follow in the footsteps of the “Miquelots”, the iconic pilgrims of Saint Michael, founders of the bay’s rich human history.
A minimalist immersion
Walking barefoot across the tangue — a unique sandy-mud sediment, sometimes firm, soft, dry or slippery. The bay’s ground is famous for its legendary quicksands, offering unique sensations with surprising benefits.
