Crossing information

The traditional crossing is done on foot as a round trip from the Norman coast, starting at Saint-Léonard, crossing to Mont-Saint-Michel, then returning to the coast
(13 km / approx. 5h45), including 30 minutes to 1 hour of free time at Mont-Saint-Michel.

The crossing can also be done one way only
(7 km / approx. 2h45), depending on your transport arrangements (to be organised by yourself).

Crossings starting from Mont-Saint-Michel are loop routes, lasting between 2h00 and 3h30, with the return taking place at Mont-Saint-Michel.

No. I am an independent guide and do not subcontract any transport companies (insufficient volume to fill full-size coaches).
However, you are free to organise your return transport independently.

By regulation, any certified guide is authorised to guide up to 60 people in the bay. (Ludo, your guide, voluntarily limits this number to 35 participants).

No. You are under the responsibility of the guide for the entire duration of the excursion.

No. Tide schedules do not change. This is essential for the safety of the group.

No. This is part of the tidal cycle.

You have 48 hours to cancel free of charge. After this period, no refund is possible (see booking terms).

Equipment

– The best option is always to walk barefoot, with bare legs — shorts or leggings.
Upper-body clothing should be adapted to the day’s weather (bring warm and waterproof clothing).

– Neoprene water shoes may be used in the low season to protect against the cold
(November to March).

– Boots are not recommended, as the tangue (a sandy–mud mixture) sticks and you risk losing them.
They also prevent you from safely crossing rivers and tidal channels.

– Backpack: towel, hat, water, snacks, sunscreen, and your shoes during the excursion.

Yes, depending on the chosen excursion, baby carriers are allowed. Please plan to take turns carrying the child during the crossing.

No, there is no risk of cutting your feet. You walk on a sandy–mud surface, with no rocks.

Physical requirements

– Bay crossings do not require intense physical effort, however you must be aware of your own health condition and have a minimum level of balance.

– Walking on sand and through water is very different from walking on a regular trail.

– The ground can sometimes be soft and slippery. The bay’s ecosystem changes every day.

– You will cross an estuary, with rivers and tidal channels to wade through. Water depth can vary from knee height up to waist height (for an adult).

– The Short Walk (2h00): from 5 years old

– Destination Tombelaine (3h15): from 6 years old

– The Long Walk – Traditional Bay Crossing (5h30–6h00): from 7 to 8 years old

Weather

– Crossings are maintained in all weather conditions.
Rain and wind are not reasons for cancellation — they are part of our Norman heritage.

– Only severe weather alerts (thunderstorms and/or dense fog) may require an excursion to be cancelled.
You will be informed as soon as possible.

– Only the guide has the authority to cancel an excursion for safety reasons.
